A man in a suit stands smiling in a classroom. Large text reads: NEW A.S. Education Degree. Don’t wait—start your path to a bachelor’s in education this summer! OFTC Oconee Fall Line Technical College logo is shown.

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) will expand its academic offerings this fall with the launch of an Associate of Science in Education degree (ASEd), providing students with a clear and affordable pathway to a career in education.

Beginning fall semester, students will be able to enroll in the program, which is part of the University System of Georgia (USG)/Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Education Preparation Articulation Agreement. This statewide agreement ensures a seamless transition from the ASEd to a bachelor’s degree in an Education Preparation Program (EPP), leading to initial teacher certification at participating USG institutions.

OFTC has long prepared students for careers in education through its Early Childhood Care and Education programs, which offer certificate, diploma and associate degree options. These programs provide a strong foundation in lesson planning and Georgia’s early learning and academic standards.

The ASEd builds on that foundation, giving students a pathway to continue their education, transfer to a four-year institution and pursue careers in teaching and related fields.

“This degree creates an opportunity for students who are passionate about teaching and making a difference in their communities,” said Michele Strickland, OFTC vice president for academics. “By starting their journey at OFTC, students can build a strong academic foundation while saving on the cost of their education.”

Students interested in the program do not have to wait until fall to get started. Core classes required for the degree will be available during the summer semester, allowing students to begin working toward their educational goals.

“This program is an important step in supporting workforce needs in education across our region,” said Tammy Bayto, OFTC academic dean for education programs. “We are proud to offer a pathway that helps develop the next generation of educators.”

Enrollment for summer and fall semesters is now open. Prospective students are encouraged to apply and speak with an advisor to begin planning their pathway in education.
