Nearly 1,000 kindergarten and first grade students from local elementary schools recently visited with Mrs. Claus during Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) Mrs. Claus Reads events in Dublin and Sandersville.

Kindergarten classes from Susie Dasher Elementary, Trinity Christian School, Northwest Laurens Elementary, Southwest Laurens Elementary, and Hillcrest Elementary attended the event on the Dublin Campus on Wednesday, December 3. Kindergarten classes from Ridge Road Primary and kindergarten and first grade classes from Brentwood School attended the Sandersville Campus event on Monday, December 8.

Smiles filled the children’s faces as they entered the DuBose Porter Business and Industry Training Center and the Ben J. Tarbutton Business Development Center, where the hallways were lined with Christmas trees decorated for the annual Festival of Trees, and Mrs. Claus sat surrounded by Christmas books.

Mrs. Claus read several holiday stories including Olive the Other Reindeer, Sammy Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Night Before Christmas. Students even received a visit from OFTC’s mascot, Ollie the Owl.

Before dismissing, each student received a special Christmas coloring page and bookmark from OFTC, along with a take-home book purchased through donations from the Dublin Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) chapter, the Dublin and Sandersville Rotary Clubs, WaCo Reads, and the OFTC Foundation. Washington County students also received a pencil from WaCo Reads.
