OFTC — When Elicia Lewis started taking Phlebotomy classes at Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC), she never imagined she’d land a career at one of her clinical sites immediately after graduation.

But after completing the Phlebotomy Technology Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit program in December, Lewis was hired by Washington County Regional Medical Center (WCRMC), one of the places she gained hands-on experience as a student during clinicals.

“OFTC’s Phlebotomy program prepared me for my role at WCRMC,” Lewis shared. “The hands-on training I received at OFTC gave me the confidence to apply what I learned in a real-world setting.”

A Supportive Environment

Beyond the technical skills, Lewis says the atmosphere at OFTC played a key role in her success.

“The supportive and engaging environment created by my instructor and classmates made my experience at OFTC enjoyable,” she said. “My instructor was not only knowledgeable but also passionate and took time to explain concepts thoroughly. Her positive attitude motivated me to stay focused and confident throughout the program.”

Advancement Opportunities

With hands-on experience and a solid foundation in healthcare, Lewis knew she wanted to keep going. Her time in Phlebotomy sparked an even greater passion for patient care, leading her to take the next step—pursuing a degree in radiology.

Returning to OFTC was an easy decision. The supportive environment, hands-on learning, and flexible scheduling made it the perfect place for her to continue building her career.

“My experience in the Phlebotomy program made me confident that OFTC was the right choice for my next step,” Lewis shared. “The instructors truly care, and the skills I’ve gained here have prepared me for success.”

Looking ahead, Lewis is focused on advancing her career in radiologic technology, using her education and experience to make a meaningful impact in patient care.

“Furthering my education is important to me because it allows me to expand my knowledge, develop new skills, and open even more career opportunities,” she said. “Continuing my education will ensure I can provide the best care to patients while growing professionally.”

Ready for The Future

Excited for what’s ahead, Lewis hopes others will consider OFTC and experience the same support which helped her succeed.

“OFTC isn’t just a place to take classes—it’s a place where you feel supported every step of the way,” she shared. “The hands-on learning, flexible schedules, and instructors who genuinely care made all the difference for me.”

Looking back, she sees her time at OFTC as a turning point.

“My experience at OFTC has been more than just education,” she said. “It’s been a steppingstone to a better future and has given me the confidence and skills to chase the future I want.”

“The support from my instructors and classmates meant everything,” she added, “and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.”
