OFTC Graduates Honored with 2023 Spring Commencement & High School Equivalency Ceremony

OFTC – Nearly 200 Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) credit and High School Equivalency (HSE) graduates were honored during the College’s 2023 Spring Commencement Ceremony & HSE Graduation held on the Dublin Campus, Thursday, June 22.

Graduates received degrees, diplomas and technical certificates of credit in a variety of high-demand fields like Medical Assisting, Automotive Technology, Early Childhood Care and Education, Respiratory, Criminal Justice Technology, Air Conditioning Technology, high school equivalency diplomas, and more.

“We cannot tell you enough how excited we are to watch you walk across the stage to receive your credential tonight,” shared OFTC President Erica Harden as she addressed the graduates. “Your hard work, determination, and perseverance is the reason you are here today and it’s inspiring.”

“We are so proud of you, and we hope you always know that OFTC is family,” she added. “We wish you all the best as you enter this new chapter of your life and career. We know you are prepared to do great things.”

State of Georgia Representative, Matt Hatchett, addressed the graduates as keynote speaker and recognized the class for their accomplishments.

“Thanks to OFTC you now have the skills you need to change your life and start looking for a job,” Hatchett said.

Hatchett shared with the graduates four characteristics of a great employee and emphasized the importance of mastering these skills.

“Attitude is a reflection of who you are on the inside,” he said. “You must have a positive attitude and display that attitude all the time.”

A strong work ethic came second. “You don’t just want to be a mediocre employee,” he said. “You want to be the best at what you do. Stand out and be exceptional. Do more than you’re getting paid to do and always go the extra mile.”

“Always get along with other people,” he added. “You have to work with other human beings and your ability to get along with others will greatly determine how far you go in your career.”

Finally, “be drama free,” he said. “Don’t think everything revolves around you.”

“No where did I mention skill level,” Hatchett said in closing, “because by graduating tonight you’ve already proven you have a certain skill level. Work on these characteristics and becoming that great employee you’ve set out to be.”
