Nicole Shenk Named OFTC’s 2024 GOAL Winner

OFTC – Nicole Shenk, an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) student from Johnson County was announced as Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) 2024 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner during the Dublin Rotary Club Meeting Thursday, December 15.

GOAL is a statewide program within the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) that honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students.

Four OFTC students were nominated by instructors for this year’s competition and chosen as finalists; they competed in a series of interviews and evaluations by a selection committee made up of representatives from local businesses and industries, and judged on qualities like academic achievement, personal character, leadership ability and enthusiasm for technical education.

Shenk was nominated by OFTC ECCE instructor, Lanna Malette.

This year’s selection committee consisted of representatives from both the Dublin and Sandersville Rotary Clubs: Sarah Kolbie, Leigh Ann Tribble and Kathryn Black Willcox represented Dublin, and Ron May and Matt Casto represented Sandersville.

L-R: Ajanae’ Parks, Nicole Shenk, Ah’Reanna Hill, and Brandon Xico

The other three competing finalists were: Ah’Reanna Hill, Laurens; Ajanae’ Parks, Laurens; and Brandon Xicotencat, Laurens.

All four were honored during the Rotary Club meeting and Shenk was announced the winner at the close of the meeting.

As the college winner, Shenk will compete in regional judging against winners from other TCSG colleges in February and will represent OFTC at the state-level in Atlanta in April when one student will be named the statewide 2024 Goal winner by the TCSG.
