ADN Bridge Students Receive Pins During College’s 2023 Ceremony

ADN Bridge Students, class of 2023; students were pinned during a 2023 pinning ceremony

Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) hosted a pinning ceremony for their fifth cohort of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Bridge Program graduates, Wednesday, July 26.

OFTC’s ADN Bridge program began in August 2018 and allows Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and paramedics who have at least one-year in-field experience to obtain certification to become Registered Nurses (RN).

Forty-seven ADN graduates received nursing pins, signifying their completion of the educational requirements to apply and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

“I am very proud of these students,” shared Tammy Bayto, OFTC’s Dean of Academic Affairs for Allied Health and Professional Services. “Many are non-traditional students who returned to school while working and caring for their families. They have a vested interest in success, and it’s evident through their hard work and dedication throughout this program.”

The tradition of the pinning ceremony dates to the Crusades when members of the Knight Hospitallers were honored with Maltese crosses after caring for wounded soldiers. Then in the 1860’s Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, continued the tradition when she decided all nursing students who completed nursing training deserved recognition.

During the ceremony each student received their nursing pin, officially welcoming them into the RN family.
