OFTC Celebrates 2024 Georgia Apprenticeship Week

2024 Manufacturing Apprenticeship Week

Dublin, GA— Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC), in partnership with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), is celebrating Apprenticeship Week in Georgia (November 17-23, 2024) by recognizing the value Registered Apprenticeship Programs have in developing a skilled workforce for Georgia. This year’s Apprenticeship Week celebrates Georgia’s historic investment in apprenticeships through the High Demand Apprenticeship Program (HDAP), which has led to unprecedented growth apprenticeships throughout the state.

OFTC is one of Georgia’s 22 technical colleges that sponsor registered apprenticeships, making it an integral part of the largest registered apprenticeship network across the state. As a sponsor, OFTC works closely with local businesses to address workforce needs and create career pathways for Georgia’s workforce through the Registered Apprenticeship Program model.

In recent years, OFTC has participated in several Registered Apprenticeship Programs, supporting over a dozen apprentices and partnering with eight employers. These efforts have been critical to supporting growth across high-demand industries and furthering Georgia’s role as a leader in workforce development.

“Apprenticeship programs that blend on-the-job training with college academics create the perfect scaffolding between theory and practice,” shared Dr. Dan Smelker-Cheeseman, Apprenticeship Program Manager for BASF. “This approach ensures apprentices gain the best of both worlds, while developing the skills needed to excel.”
